Cosmetic Sclerotherapy on Youtube
We recently had several videos and commercials made for educational purposes. I thought I would share them with you via Youtube.
This video was made to explain to patients what cosmetic sclerotherapy, also known as spider vein injections, was and why we do them.

Millions and Millions of People Have it…
Did you know 50% of women and 25% of men, by the time they are 50 years of age, have vein disease?!! It’s true! And, over 80% of the time it comes from genetics. There are approximately 50 million people in the United States that have vein disease, and most of them either don’t know they have it or don’t know where to go to have it treated.
The following are some of the symptoms of vein disease:
- night cramps
- swollen ankles
- restless legs
- bulging veins
- spider veins
- tired, heavy legs
- leg aching or pain
If you have any of these symptoms, make an appointment with a doctor’s office that specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of veins and vein disease. These doctors are called Phlebologists. Make sure the doctor you choose is board certified in Phlebology, a specialty now recognized by the American Medical Association. Seek help from a specialist who has been trained in this field, as not all are created equal.

Are Spider Veins Only a Cosmetic Problem?
While spider veins can be a cosmetic concern, they also can be the result of a deeper problem, such as venous reflux. Venous reflux is a condition in which blood leaks back with gravity and pools in the vein, causing veins to swell with blood, and in turn, causes other smaller veins to become enlarged and swollen with stagnant blood. With the use of a Doppler Duplex Ultrasound scan, we can determine if your spider veins are the result of venous reflux, pinpoint the exact source of the problem, and treat the venous reflux and spider veins.
Phlebologist vs. Phlebotomist
When I tell people Dr Nick Morrison is a Phlebologist, many people think I am saying Phlebotomist. Confusing right? Even though the two words only have 2 letters that are different, there is a huge difference between a Phlebologist and a Phlebotomist.
A Phlebotomist is a medical professional who draws blood from a patient for various lab tests as ordered by a medical doctor. Phlebotomy entails a relatively short training period.
A Phlebologist, conversely, is a medical doctor with many years of medical school and postgraduate training who specializes specifically in the diagnosis and treatment of varicose veins, spider veins, and venous disease. The American College of Phlebology is a professional organization of Phlebologists and other health care professionals, whose goal is to facilitate learning and sharing of knowledge regarding of venous disease. The end result of all of this knowledge, experience and training is a constant improvement in the diagnosis and treatment of persons having venous problems.
“Your so vein”
When I tell people I work for Morrison Vein Institute, I get 1 of 3 responses: 1) Oh like the song, “Your so Vain,”
2) Oh Morrison Vein, I have seen their ads everywhere
or 3) What is that?
No matter what response I get, I have to further explain that we are a medical practice specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of veins and vein disease. Most people don’t know anything about vein disease or that there are treatments available for spider and varicose veins. Most people assume spider veins are a cosmetic issue, which is not always true, and if you are “Oh so Vain” then you might get them treated. What they don’t know is spider veins may be the visible sign that someone has vein disease.
So I love telling people where I work, because it immediately sparks conversation.
Veins, Veins, Veins…
The older we get the more we have, veins that is. We all have veins, but some of us are unlucky enough to have the ugly ones all over our legs. Some people have veins that stick out or bulge, known as Varicose veins. Others have purple/bluish or red veins, which are called spider veins.
Do you or someone you know where pants 365 days a year to cover those ugly veins? Don’t feel like you are the only one that suffers from these ugly things, because 50% of women and 25% of men by the time they reach 50 yrs old have vein disease. Genetics plays a huge part of why we get varicose and spider veins. Other factors include, sitting or standing for long periods of time, or an injury to your legs.
The Good News…there are quite a few easy in-office procedures that can be done to get rid of the unwanted veins on your legs, hands, and face. So don’t fret, just call a Phlebologist.

There’s More to Your Leg Veins Than Meets the Eye!
Do you have a problem with leg veins? If so, you’re not alone. Nearly half of all women eventually develop venous disease, with symptoms that include “ugly veins,” leg aches, swelling, or in the worst cases, ulcers and blood clots. But while some people—even professionals—may tell you that bulging blue veins or threadlike purple spider veins are “merely cosmetic,” the truth is that without an ultrasound scan, it’s impossible to know if there is a medical problem in the hidden saphenous veins that spread like tree limbs through your legs.
Many facilities offer cosmetic vein treatment. Morrison Vein Institute is different. We specialize in comprehensive vein care of both unsightly and unhealthy veins. That means we don’t just treat veins that appear on the surface. We do a complete evaluation before vein treatment to identify any hidden problem areas. Next,we treat these problems completely. Finally,
we re-examine the veins periodically to ensure that venous reflux has not returned.Venous disease cannot be “cured forever” by initial treatment but it can be managed so that serious vein problems are prevented and discomfort is minimized. Even if your unhealthy veins were “stripped” in the past, other veins may become diseased. Morrison Vein Institute frequently works with people who’ve had previous vein treatments. If your vein problem is coming back,we’ll treat those veins with the most effective procedure for your individual condition.
